Is it a good idea to have a friend where you work? As in, keeping your colleague as a friend

Well, I don't support it, I believe a friend should be different from a colleague. Just like a trending Twitter/X post sometimes ago, we have to normalize not refering to a colleague as friend.images (1).jpeg

I support @Ruthk. There used to be a former colleague that we shared office together, she had a close friend in HR department. This close friend of hers is a junior HR person, in fact an intern as at that time.

The point is that they gist about any and everything, including the life of other staff, they wouldn't just stop talking anytime the HR person visited our office. They would gist to the extent that the HR girl will start revealing private things concerning others. Their age, where they worked before, their people (as in guarantors) e.t.c

I just hated seeing the two together especially at the office...they were shitty people honestly.

Reason I fear people who talk too much. Office should be a place for work, do your job and go home but some people think you must keep friends at the office, that's the source of unhealthy politics at the workplace.

I understand you guys, just that there might be exception in few cases. You could meet someone with the same energy as you, I'm not talking about bad vibes or energy though.

What do you have to say about couple  that met at the workplace then? We have some like that and it happens because they click well.

@Bolded might be another topic for some other day. I still stand the same ground, keep your good energy for friendship outside of your organisation.

The other person with good vibes as you might have people with bad vibes to later connect with, you never can tell.

I'm not saying you shouldn't connect with colleagues when it's work related or healthy discussion that's not lengthy. But not keeping one as a friend.
