I wanted to purchase a hand reg domain name and I was randomly checking the history on Archive. To my surprise, this domain name already had history.

Secondly, is the history of any use?

Congra

1) Because they have been used and now recycled

2) Yes, maybe when flipping/reselling, 'cause the buyer might trace the history and if he sees a bad record, he may not buy. Aside that, I don't think it has any use.

Thanks, but I think selling used domain names is the purpose of expired domain auction.

Again what if the domain has good history and not a bad one?

Congra

Not all expired domain could be sold at the auction. NEVER
There are many of them that finally do not get sold, especially those with bad history. Even many with good history might not be lucky at the auction.

If it has good history, it will as well be useful in case you're flipping, buyers would like to buy.

As for personal use, well, maybe if it has good social media presence with the link attached, also some great backlinks. That might later serve as source of traffic even though what you are doing is different, might still interest some of the old users. Aside that, I don't think there would be any effect 'cause it's been recycled.

Great, but @bolded, does that mean it's safe to buy any kind of used domain in new form (recycled domain), no matter what history it has?

I did not say that, avoid any domain name with bad history like plague, except you want to experiment and tell us about it. Remember I'm not Google that will rank the website. Only buy any form of domain you see with clean or good history.

Except you want to use it for the same or related former purpose. e.g an old Adult video site for a new Adult video site or an old casino site for a new one. In this case, patrons remain the same.
