Favicon is that small logo-like image you see on a website when you Google search or when the website is loading. Example is the coloured "G" with white background that shows for Google.

How do you add favicon to your website?

Simply go to your file manager from your Cpanel. Go to public html and select index.php, just select and upload, no need to open (File manager<---public_html<---index.php). Click upload and proceed to upload your Favicon, on a different control panel e.g 'DirectAdmin', you may only need to select public_html and upload, no need to further select index.php. Ensure your Favicon is in .ico, also ensure you rename the image to favicon.ico before uploading. If the image isn't in .ico format there are platforms to change other image format to .ico, just Google it. After uploading, a file will automatically be generated from your public_html or index.php folder with the name "Favicon.ico". All things being equal, your Favicon should later show up.

How long does it take a Favicon to appear on Google?

It can take from few minutes to 1 - 2 weeks or even longer. Mine appeared after 8 days, if it's a new website, it could take that long, so be calm.

What should be the size of a Favicon?

Anything from 16x16 would be perfect, just ensure it's within the favicon's size range. I have seen a site with size 48x48, another with 96x96, another with 256x256. The one on this website is 192x192. So, you can use the size you want among the set favicon size ranges.

To know if your Favicon was successfully uploaded, search for - "websitename.com/favicon.ico" in your browser (e.g if your website name is "websheree.com", type in ("websheree.com/favicon.ico") and this would bring up your Favicon even if it's still processing on Google and yet to properly show up on general search.

All you need to do after this is hold for proper processing and it would reflect.

In case you want to run a check to confirm the size of different favicons on different websites, just type in the website name/ favicon.ico on your Chrome browser as described above. Chrome will display the Favicon and if you click on the tab after a display (as if you want to edit or copy an address), you will find the Favicon size written together with the address you typed earlier.
