Lol @Rocco🤣

From personal experience they're asking majorly for two reasons.

1) The know their working condition isn't conducive, so they want to know if you have someone who can always whisper to your ear:

"What kind of job is this?"
"Is it not better you look for another job?"
"Stay home and stop going to that workplace that squeeze the hell outta you" (our biological parents especially can have this kinda tone sometimes)

If you do not really have people that support you and you are already on your own paying bills, most companies know they get away with many shits and toxicity. Leaving some people with no choice rather than to stay in the toxic workplace for a reasonable amount of time.

2) To shortpay you. Yes, read that again.
They believe you have less responsibilities if you stay with relatives or if you even share a space with a friend. So, they try to bargain a lower pay if you do not stay alone. If you stay alone however, you might not get the job, because they could think what they have to offer wouldn't be enough to cater for your needs, if you get the job, congratulations, as the pay could turn out to be reasonable.

I have worked in a place where this question was asked during interview because they close very late at night (a shift work though). Guess they wanted to know how much liberty I had with my own time.

To see how much of your time they can have to themselves.

I see this question as an unnecessary one.
What could be the reason behind this kind of question?
Do you stay alone? OR
Who do you stay with?
