Sudden change in work hours. What could be done?

Hi guys, the owner of the company I work for called a meeting to inform us (myself and two others doing the same job) that he want us to start running shifts, no more 9 to 5.
9 to 5 was what I signed for not shift.

There's no way I can run shift because of my health, it's something I have done before and I know it's not for me, especially when it comes to night shift.

What can I do?

Just explain to him you would not be able to cope 'cause of your health.

No one would listen to this in most organisations.

@Op, employers do this well, it reminds me of a friend's situation back then. My suggestion would be to just manage till you get another job and leave. If you can't get another job on time, double your savings and quit as this is detrimental to your health. You'll be replaced in no time if anything bad happens to you.

Your boss has done what he's capable of, God will make a way.

What nonsense!!! Why would you just be rotating people's lives as if you are their creator? If you insist you can't work the new shift, he should let you be while others work the shift. Afterall, you didn't bargain for that.

Unfortunately, it does not work this way. They'll say he's not ready to work together to let the company grow especially if it's start up.

There should be a law for this, I mean, people have their lives outside work and you shouldn't see yourself as a lord over their lives because they work for you. So bad!!

This was exactly what made me leave my last job. Change in work schedule without prior notice of flexibility should in case. If there was any form of notice, I wouldn't have taken the job, because I know I can't shoulder it. I tried everything to talk to both the owner and the manager but to no avail.
Don't waste your time explaining yourself to anyone, if you know your health could later suffer for it, drop that job now👌. It's not worth it

Most employers see employees as their possession. Only few of them are reasonable which is not up to 2%.
If you can't do it, just quit. Your health should be a priority here.
Even if there's no health concern, if I know 9 to 5 is what's best for me, I'd rather leave.
Little time, that kind of boss would ask you to be coming to his house to lay his bed.

You can get a lawyer just to write him to explain better your condition as a means of alternative resolution.
However, if it's a start up and not an established company, only little could be done because anyone would tell you they have every right to adjust any plan that's not going well.

It's high time we started rejecting many rubbish from employers though, you can't be controlling humans like your car just because you got them employed. I would leave that kind of job without looking back. He should have waited a little more, like few more months for the company to grow a bit bigger and get more hands that are willing to work shifts instead. That time, you guys would have gotten more responsibilities as well that wouldn't affect your 9 to 5 in any way.

No matter what he says, nothing would change, that kind of boss already believes he owns them and could direct them to anywhere at any time. He should just leave
