I would like to know your thoughts on this. When exactly are we supposed to get mobile phones for our kids?

Mafy

Well, it's technology era and I think the earlier they are exposed to the world of internet, the better.
So, let's say from 11 years but if we are talking about a very smart child, I would say 9 years. As a parent just ensure you protect properly. Block every negative things they might have access to.

Ruthk

At age 13. They can be using tab for assignments, light social media and all sort but the tab will always be at home. When they're 13 I will get them personal phones.

Mafy

@Ruthk, let them be 20 instead. We know people like you 😂. At the end, you will buy the latest iPhone for your child at 5 or 6.

Jokes apart, the way these kids grow so fast nowadays, mentally and physically. I think by 10/11 years they should have their personal phones. There should be some restrictions as I said earlier though.

@Mafy, Lmao...Not you and I. You know children are different, even at that 13 I must be sure you are a serious child if not I wouldn't get him/her a smartphone until 15. Small one for calls and tab at home for assignments.

Rocco

It all boils down to how intelligent the child is. If I notice for instance that the child is too inquisitive, always wanting to know everything (reasonable). I could get him a standard tab as early as 7. I would say 10 years of age is ok in general anyways.

Seriously @Ruthk, have you thought of peer pressure? All his/her mates have started using phone by 10 and you wanna keep the kid waiting. No way....A way to restrict access to bad things on the phone is all that matters.

I agree that they shouldn't be taking the phone everywhere when they're young especially school, so as to focus. It's part of the restrictions we are talking about, lack of maintenance and proper handling may occur too, so they should be monitored.

I still believe age 13 isn't bad. At that age he/she could even take it anywhere, school included, I believe there would already be some level of self-caution by then in term of restriction and maintenance.
