Is it the duty of a wife to cook?

I was walking a friend of mine (Bryan) on and as we were going, we met another friend of ours (Jay, I'm not using their real names).

Bryan was telling Jay it's almost time to start preparing dinner and Jay was like, 'is your brother's wife not at home? She should do the cooking,' the two of us looked at him as we were a bit surprised.
Bryan is staying with his brother and his wife for a while, and he does the cooking together with his sister in-law most of the time, sometimes he does it alone.

I would like to ask, should cooking only be a wife's or a woman's duty?

I and my sisters rotate how and when we cook, that's how we've been taught by my mum, and I see nothing wrong in Bryan doing the cooking with his sister in-law.

Are you like Jay or like me and Bryan?
Should cooking be a wife's or woman's duty alone?

Anyone can cook, cooking is a life skill everyone should have not a wife's duty.
She is called a wife not a chef, I cook for my babe to eat most of the time, because I'm better at it than her and I guess I like cooking than she does. It's not a wife's duty.

No, cooking is what a chef or a cook does for a living.
A wife is whom you are married to, and who 'might' oversee the responsibilities of your chef, cook, cleaner and other house staff.

If a wife does any or all of the bolded, she's probably doing it because you're poor and no man should see this as her responsibility, just privilege.

If you need a wife, get yourself a wife.
If you need a cook, get yourself a cook.

What will be the duty of a wife then?🤔🤷

Definitely No, Bryan is doing very well, I'm sure the sister in-law wouldn't mandate it for him, he's just doing as his mother taught him (like you said your mum taught you too), you guys have wonderful mothers and I'm sure you'll be one of the world best husbands when you get married.
Anyone can cook, the brother himself, the wife, the brother in-law or any other person, a wife is not a slave.

She didn't mandate it and he (Bryan) is in a hurry to go help with dinner?

I already wrote part of it up there... Oversee the work of the house staff, plus look after and train the kids as a mother, take care of the husband by ensuring his needs are met on time, look good always for the husband, this could include subjecting herself to tasking activities like some demanding exercises, when they have guests, she takes care of the guests as well, e.t.c
It's never ending

If there's anything I would ensure my son or male children learn very well, it's cooking and how to properly take care of the kitchen, you guys don't know to what extent that habit could make or break a marriage.
Most mothers aren't trying at all in that aspect with male children. My husband hardly helps out in the kitchen and it's annoying, I will work and get back home only to be left with kitchen chores all by myself. The only thing that keeps my smile with him till today in that regard is that, he doesn't have a problem buying food for the whole family if I complain I'm tired, he may not cook but he would order or go out and get what everyone would eat for us.
Cooking isn't a wife's duty please, maybe if I'm a stay at home wife, I could say otherwise, but for a working wife, it's not.

Don't mind men, I'm sure if we ask "should financial responsibility of a home solely be handled by the husband?", all the men would boldly say no. I wonder why cooking should be a wife's responsibility alone.

He could just like cooking and wouldn't want to miss out or just being humane and wouldn't want the sister in-law to go through the stress of cooking alone.
No sister in-law would mandate that for an adult.

They are grown-ups not children. Do you think a daughter or sister in-law can mandate cooking or helping out in the kitchen for a grown-up?
I doubt it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
He may not be, he could be a helping person too who just think the sister in-law should understand he's with his friends for that day and should be able to handle the cooking alone.
I guess he just wanted Bryan to stay and gist with them a little longer.
Anybody can act like that.

There's nothing in cooking, I cook most of the time while my wife does other things. In fact, I prefer to cook than do other chores like sweeping, mopping, making bed and so on.
I cook more and everyone who has ever visited knows including my mum, some men wouldn't like their mum to know they cook for their wives. My mum knows and wasn't surprised when she visited and realized I cook more because I have always liked to cook even back at home with her, so it wasn't any big deal.

I cook, we eat and my wife cleans up, I help with the clean up too but not always, our first child can now do some little cleaning making it easier.
There's nothing in cooking as for me, and no, it's not a wife's duty.

In my house, we don't even rotate. The idea is that, anyone who's hungry gets up, go straight into the kitchen and cook for all, if it's time for a main meal.

If it's making something to snack on, you ask others if they're interested and you make the snack for everyone interested.
That's how we were trained and this include mum and dad as well. Dad does more of the snack thing anyway, but he cooks too not just as often as every other person.

Knowing how to cook has saved me a great deal in life.

If you're starving, don't enter the kitchen. If you like stay there and keep asking questions.

Try and marry someone like me, you'll remain there starving my dear🤪

No, it's not the duty of a wife to cook.
Anyone in the family can cook, and if there's no one to cook, it's not a crime to buy food.
I guess, my wife and I would often buy food when I get married, because I don't like cooking and I really don't like seeing people cooking, cooking is draining.
I can only understand if you're doing it for money.

You can get a chef who will be doing bulk cooking possibly once or twice a week instead of buying at all times.
