Why do we have so many Narcissists these days compared to in the olden days?

Everywhere you go nowadays, you hear people talking about Narcissists, it's more common on some online communities and even offline, you see spouses complaining about their narcissist significant other.
When we were growing up, we hardly hear things like these and we didn't usually hear terms like these from our parents.
Were there no Narcissist back then?

Edollar

Awareness, people are now aware. There were Narcissists back then but many other terms were used for them, wicked soul, evil personification, devil in human form e.t.c

Amaria

I think their percentage are higher in the world we live in today. Higher than the estimated value.

There have always been narcissists, I remember my mum told us about a mentally challenged woman whose husband was a complete narcissist, he was successful getting away with this woman as his victim and she finally became a psychiatric patient as a result of excess torture from the husband, while the husband finally left her after accomplshing his aim, the repeated Narc phases continued over and over again until she became what she became, she finally got better but her life didn't remain the same.
People are very aware now and unlike back then, you can just browse the internet when you suspect strange signs and it pops up immediately. That's what makes the difference.

I'm not disputing the fact that people are now aware, but you see, even till now, they're not that common. Real Narcissists are very minority and a lot of people wouldn't meet one in a lifetime.
The thing is just that there are many people, I mean large amount of people that have Narcissistic traits.
Some personalities are so close to being a Narcissist especially when they're with those they do not give a Bleep  about, they act nearly like a narcissist for most situation to favour them.

Maybe what I would say is that people should stop self diagnoses, you are claiming someone is a narcissist when the person only shows few narcissistic traits. Research has shown that almost everyone display certain narcissistic trait, even though I don't believe, because I don't display any (lol).

Major point is that the fact someone is showing only one or two traits doesn't make them a Narcissist and everyone should understand that.

I feel so sorry for the woman, that's their mission, to destroy and run away.

@Op, as someone who had been with a real Narcissist before, I will say most people being labelled as narcissists aren't narcissist.

On this thread , someone said some people only label others as narcissists and I support the person. If you meet a real narcissist, you'll question if he or she is a devil himself, because every single thing that could be used to describe a devil will be present in him or her at a higher concentration, they are demons not humans per se and a lot of people can't even survive it with a real narcissist.

I smile when I see people saying they've been with a narcissist spouse for decades and they remain the same, you're possibly with someone with high narcissistic tendencies and not a Narcissist. A Narcissist would have caused you to be mentally or physically ill, life threaning illness is what i'm talking about and then leave you with almost nothing and nobody, or would have even caused you to commit suicide.

Narcissists are demons and they aren't common as people label it, many just have the tendencies.

Thereal

They have always been around. People are only more exposed and it's good that way, so the narcissists could be given their space. They deserve to be alone not with anyone.

Rainy

Another way to look at it is, medical practitioners would only test those that come their way. The number of the remaining others could be unknown. Don't forget, narcissists hardly seek help because they love how they are.

Ennesi

Most people that label others as narcissists are actually narcissists themselves.
Are they psychologist or psychiatrist?

Perhaps those who label others are the real narcissists.

I think Narcissism (not Narcissistic personality disorder) is becoming more of a trend these days, I'll explain.
People with high narcissistic traits i.e Narcissism, see that it's profitable to move towards that side than choosing to be a positive person.
When they are using the Narcissistic skills, things fall in place faster for them, I'll give you an example, there was a place I worked, we observed some dirty games were being played along the line possibly from the owner himself (to steal from patrons), and a guy from my team wanted to dig, as he was investigating, he got discovered by a girl in the same team, this girl immediately took the step to alert the owner knowing fully well it's all owner's plan. The guy was lied on to other staff, got fired  and the girl continued to be one of the owner's favourite till today, that action and other similar ones have paved ways in opening the doors of many favours to her in the company.
Of recent, I heard another guy was fired because he was lied on by someone who's desperately in need of a promotion in the same company, it worked for him and he got what he wanted.
These people think the Narcissism side favours them and it makes them achieve quicker, so they choose to go in that direction. Afterall, we have more of these people with ASPD at the top, so if you can prove to them you have their type of skills, achieving things in life wouldn't be difficult. Hence, In a workplace or in an administration for example, once you observe someone uses this skill and it favourable to the person, you look into yourself and see that it's what you can do too, you do it and it favours you, what remains?🤷
The cycle continues....
Reason why you see so many Narcissistsic behaviours out there, however, not all of them have Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD).
